Welcome to CAD Mafia, your go-to YouTube channel for mastering the art of 3D design and engineering in SolidWorks! In this new series, we’re diving deep into Lofted Boss/Base and Lofted Cut features—two of the most powerful tools in SolidWorks that every designer should know.

In SolidWorks, the Lofted Boss/Base feature allows you to create complex 3D shapes by blending two or more sketch profiles that are placed on different planes or faces. This tool is especially useful for creating parts with varying cross-sections, like aerodynamic bodies, molds, and organic shapes.
How to use the Lofted Boss/Base in SolidWorks:
Create the Sketches:
- Start by creating at least two or more 2D sketches on different planes or faces. These sketches will define the profiles of your lofted shape.
Activate Lofted Boss/Base:
- Go to the Features tab on the Command Manager and click on Lofted Boss/Base.
Select Profiles:
- In the Loft Property Manager
, select the profiles you created earlier. These profiles will be used to guide the loft.
- In the Loft Property Manager
Adjust the Loft Options:
- You can add guide curves, change the loft type, or use tangent/normal options to control how the loft transitions between the profiles.
Complete the Loft:
- Once you're satisfied with the preview, click OK to complete the loft and create your 3D shape.
The Lofted Boss/Base is an essential tool for creating intricate designs and adds flexibility in forming complex surfaces and bodies in SolidWorks.
